Mullahs, Metal Detectors & Music

Location: Study
Edited and produced by Haya Fatima Iqbal with support from Geet Chainani

Haya Fatima Iqbal: When VBB came up with the concept of the repercussions of terrorism threats and security checks in our daily lives, I decided to explore how some of the shrines of Sufi saints in Pakistan are being affected by this phenomenon. And what better way to find out about it than to speak to frequent visitors to these shrines! I interviewed The Sketches, a two-member Pakistani band who fuses Sufi messages in their music and love going to Sufi shrines. Not only did they talk about the issue on the surface; they also described in detail how Sufi ideals are inherently opposed to fanaticism in the name of religion.
